Nestled between the mainland and the neighbouring islands of Hvar and Solta is the enchanting island of Brac.
Holiday makers love its wonderful beaches, magnificent scenery and pretty seaside villages. Brac is Croatia’s largest island and the perfect destination for families and couples wanting to soak up the best the country has to offer. Brac offers a diverse landscape including pine-scented forests, crystal clear waters and rocky cliffs. The attractive town of Bol offers a livelier base including the famous Zlatni Rat beach, whilst the quaint village of Supetar is the perfect place to relax.
Fly from London and all main regional airports from the UK to Split Airport (SPU). Flight time is typically 2hrs 15 mins to 3 hrs. To get to Brac you need to firstly take a transfer to Split Port which takes around 30 minutes. For Supetar take the ferry which takes 50 minutes and for Bol the catamaran takes just over 1 hour.
Brac offers a warm climate and enjoyed throughout the summer period. The shoulder months of April, May, early June, late September and October offer cheaper accommodation and lesser crowds.
Wherever you are staying the hotels are all within walking distance to the main sights and nearby restaurants of each town. Brac has an excellent local bus network enabling you to explore the island. To fully explore the island why not hire a car?
The months of June, July and August are hot and usually hit 30 degrees. Early April and October is generally around 20 degrees.

Bol: The beautiful town of Bol is one of the focal points on Brac and is considered to be one of the Adriatic’s most charming spots. Atmosphere oozes from the maze of streets and alleyways and stunning architecture including the Dominican Monastery and Museum. It’s enhanced by a marble-paved promenade, fringed with subtropical gardens. Bol is of course famous for another reason: Zlatni Rat beach. A stretch of smooth white pebbles extends for about 500m with pine trees providing shade and rocky cliffs rising sharply behind the beach. Regular buses depart from Supetar to Bol.
Supetar: The altogether quieter affair of Supetar, is one of the region’s best kept secrets. A quick 50 minute ferry ride from Split and you’ll be immersed in typical Croatia: olive groves, orchards, pine woods and an unforgettable coastline. Kick back and enjoy the relaxed way of life. The harbour is delightfully attractive whilst the medieval streets add atmosphere. A number of excellent beaches are within close proximity to Supetar as well. Given that Supetar is only a short hop from Split you’ll be spoilt for choice on how to spend your time.
Explore the Island: The island boasts an array of stunning villages including Postira, Pucisca and Lovrecina, offering tranquil retreats amidst beautiful historical settings. These charming spots are just waiting to be explored, adding that extra little something to an already perfect escape. It’s easy to get to these little havens from Supetar, as all buses on Brac start and end in Supetar and are operated by Autotrans.
Be active: Brac is an excellent location for outdoor types, with an abundance of marked hiking and biking trails which weave around the island. Take the 2 hour trail up to Vidova Gora mountain peak and you will be rewarded by breath-taking views of the Island and its near neighbours. For water lovers, Bol is celebrated as the best spot for wind-surfing, while at Potocine beach, kayaking and diving are popular.
Split: The bustling city of Split is only an hour away and makes for a great day out from Hvar Explore the UNESCO Protected Diocletian Roman Palace, one of the best-preserved Roman buildings in existence. It is a maze of delightful restaurants, bars, museums, galleries and ancient churches.To get to Split from Supetar, there are around 12 ferries per day in the summer, taking 50 minutes or you can visit on an organised excursion. Hvar Island: Regularly voted as one of the top islands to visit in Europe, the fantastic Hvar Town is the place to go, medieval walls surround the beautifully ornamented gothic palaces on the winding stone streets, while in the bay, luxury yachts dock near the stylish bars and cafes. Visit the Pakleni Islands, the archipelago just in front of the Hvar Town for some downtime in the sun. Connections from Brac to Hvar aren’t great for day trips, so you’d have to take the ferry to Split and then the catamaran down to Hvar Town or visit as part of an excursions. Makarska: Located on a horseshoe-shaped bay, the pretty town of Makarska is, not surprisingly, the larges on the Riviera. Her you will find a 500 year old Franciscan monastery, which amongst other things boasts a picture gallery and a library. Makarska also boasts picturesque beaches as well as many cafes, bars and pastry shops. Find more information about Makarska here.
Korcula: Renowned for being the reputed birthplace of Marco Polo, Korcula offers a rich history and excellent beaches. Its fascinating Old Town is of course a little smaller than Dubrovnik’s but is still a wonderful place to explore. You can easily get to Korcula from Bol, Brac, by catamaran which takes around 1hr 50mins. The catamarans run every day between June and September. Find more information about Korcula here.
