Serving as the country's economic, political and cultural centre it is the gateway to the Balkans. Straddled by a series of river and waterways, it is crossed by more than a dozen bridges, which include the famous Dragon, Triple and Cobbler Bridges. Due to Ljubljana's central position and excellent transport links, it makes for a great base to explore the wider region, including the famous Lake Bled and the Postojna Caves.

Background to Lake Bohinj:  Slovenia's largest lake, the tranquil Lake Bohinj, is known for its wide variety of opportunities for visitors looking to interact with the surroundings. Its enchanting forested mountains and alpine air make for wonderful walking and hiking routes, especially those that head into the Julian Alps. The pristine water is ideal for water based activities such as swimming, kayaking and canoeing. For those yearning for an extra adrenaline kick, there is canyoning and white water rafting nearby too.

Piran

Background to Portoroz/ Piran: Slovenia's coast may only be 47km in length but it makes up for it in history and style. Portoroz is one the larger resorts and is nestled next to the jewel of the Slovenian coast, Piran. Piran's Old Town sits pretty at the end of a narrow peninsula boasting one of best preserved historical towns on the Adriatic. Portoroz's selection of excellent hotels, sandy beach and close proximity to Piran (40 minute walk) make it a prime location to relax after a exploring Slovenia's beauty.
