The “tourist city tax” in Italy is a local overnight stay tax set by each municipality. Tourists must pay for this at all regiestered tourist accommodation (hotels, B&Bs, holiday rentals etc. It is charged per person, per night, paid for at check in or check out of the accommodation. The amount depends on the location, accommodation type, season and number of nights. Children under 12 or 14 (depending on location) are exempt.
