Fly from London and most major regional airports from the UK to Pula Airport (PUY). Flight time is typically 2hrs 15mins to 2hrs 30mins. Transfer to Rovinj takes around 35 minutes.
Rovinj offers a warm climate and enjoyed throughout the summer period. The shoulder months of April, May, early June, late September and October offer cheaper accommodation and lesser crowds.
Most hotels are around a 15-20 minute walk from Rovinj's Old Town.
The months of June, July and August are hot and usually hit 30 degrees. Early April and October is generally around 20 degrees.

Background to Rovinj: Coastal Istria’s star attraction, Rovinj, remains one of the last genuine fishing ports on the Mediterranean, yet exudes a profusion of style and glamour. Wooded hills and the sparkling blue Adriatic form a backdrop to the old town’s peninsula, where terracotta roofed buildings and a maze of cobbled streets beg for exploration. Rovinj boasts an ideal location in order to explore many its region’s highlights including the coastal towns of Porec and Pula, and inner Istria with it’s Tuscanesque surroundings, as well as nearby Venice.
Explore the Old Town and visit the market: The town’s showcase is the imposing Church of St Euphemia, which dominates from its hilltop location in the centre of the peninsula. Inside, look for the marble tomb of St Euphemia and also climb the 60 metre bell tower for striking views of the town and the Adriatic azure.
Whilst you’ve probably not come to ogle at the fruit and vegetables, head straight for the olive oil, wine and truffle sections. This local produce is in an altogether class of its own, a simple must buy for any foodie and wine lover.
Explore the Islands: In addition to exceptional Mediterranean architecture, Rovinj possesses great natural beauty. The 13 green offshore islands of Rovinj archipelago are a protected nature reserve. The largest and most famous, St Katarina Island can be visited by boat which leaves every hour from a small pier located at main square. The verdant pine-strewn island is renowned for its beautiful beaches, perfect for snorkelling, swimming and sunbathing. St Andrija, also know as the red island is another great spot for swimming and relaxing.
Explore Rovinj by bike: Rovinj is generally flat making exploring it a leisurely activity, especially in the summer sun. The town and Istria as a whole offers a number of excellent trails for all ages and expertise. This website offers a fantastic selection of recommended cycling routes across the region, including a few that start and end of Rovinj. Hire a bike from your hotel or a local agency.
Inner Istria: One of Croatia’s hidden gems, the region of Istria is very well known for its beautiful coastline including Rovinj, however away from the coast it is often overlooked. Hilltop towns, olive groves and vineyards give this area more of a Tuscan feel than Croatian. Visit the stunning town of Motovun, perched high up on a 227m hill, famous for its Venetian heritage, truffles and international film festival held in late July. Groznjan is another beautiful hilltop Istrian town, famous for its influx of artists. Unfortunately there’s no bus from Rovinj to these, so hiring a car for the day is your best choice.
Pula: The capital of the Istrian region, Pula's history goes back thousands of years, excelling in the Roman times, making it one of Istria's leading attractions. Roman ruins are dotted all around its centre, including the famous Ampitheatre, that held 23,000 people and is the second largest in the world, after that in Rome. The Trimphal Arch of Sergii and the Temple of August are other sites worth seeing. You can easily get to Pula, from Rovinj, by using one of the regular buses.
Porec: Another of Istria’s stunning coastal wonders, Porec boasts a rich history dating back to 50 B.C. The compact Old Town, following Roman design, has a rectangular street plan. Leading from there you will find Porec’s most recognised site, the UNESCO Protected Euphrasian Basilica, famous for its gleaming mosaics. Other notable sights include the Round Tower and the Romanesque House. Regular buses go between Rovinj and Porec making it easily accessible for a day trip.For more details on Porec click here.
Venice: Yes, you’ve read correctly, you can visit one of Italy’s best known cities on a day trip from Rovinj. In the summer months a fast catamaran departs most days to Venice where you can bask in the splendour of the Grand Canal palaces. It is strongly advisable to book well in advance as it’s an extremely popular route for day trippers. The cost of a return is around £70 per adult and can be booked via the Venezia Lines website. Duration is 3 hours 45 minutes.
